Low light photography and high ISO in particular can cause this usually unwanted problem. I had tried quite a few noise removal programs, plug-ins and within photoshop alone, but none seemed to do a good enough job. Some came close and depending on the level of noise worked ok to rescue the photo but photos with heavier noise would more often than not end up not being used.

A few weeks ago I came across Imagenomic. This seems to be the answer to noise removal whilst maintaining enough detail. I'm very impressed with this software. It has turned some of those high noise images into "keepers". Imagenomic comes with predefined settings or can be tweaked to achieve the desired result on any given photo. There is a free standalone community version available which does a great job... and there are also standard and pro versions available with extra abilities. I highly recommend this software.

You can download or trial Imagenomic from their website at http://imagenomic.com/index.aspx

Enjoy!
Danka

21st Century Photography on TV!

http://www.dankadear.com/3/post/2010/03/21st-century-photography-on-tv.html

http://www.dankadear.com/3/post/2010/03/21st-century-photography-on-tv.html#comments

Uncategorized

I'm very excited and honored to be included in this newly released book "21st Century Photography" by Mark Orr. Thank you Mark!

Mark Orr did an incredible job of getting together over 20 photographers from around the world.. solely through MySpace mainly. He contacted each of us individually with his idea of creating this book and asked about contributing our work. It's been so amazing to see the work of all the talented photographers and a huge inspiration. Not only that, but we have all made some great friendships through it and continue to keep in contact and stay connected.

I'm such a firm believer in the DIY (Do it Yourself) approach, and this has shown just how anything really is possible especially with the technology available today.

Just recently the book was featured on a TV segment with TVA in Quebec. It was such a thrill to see!

The book can be viewed and purchased by clicking on the image below:

Using Photoshop Actions to quickly add your signature to photos

http://www.dankadear.com/3/post/2010/02/using-photoshop-actions-to-quickly-add-your-signature-to-photos.html

http://www.dankadear.com/3/post/2010/02/using-photoshop-actions-to-quickly-add-your-signature-to-photos.html#comments

Uncategorized

The other day I was editing photos to put up on MySpace and it got so repetitive with doing the borders and adding the signature plus it all adds up and takes time. I’ve used Actions before but never thought to use it for these tasks. So much easier, and it sure speeds up the time taken to prepare photos.

Here’s what to do:

Step 1. Open your photo

Step 2. After you’ve completed editing, resizing etc. Go to Windows, and select ACTIONS (or press Alt +F9)

Step 3. On the far right top corner you’ll see a little arrow. Click that and it brings down a drop menu.

Step 4. Select NEW ACTION and give it a name, then click on Record. (It will record all you do from now)

Step 5. Select the text tool and place the cursor where you would normally include your copyright and signature. (It doesn’t matter if you vary the positioning, you can move it later)

Step 6. Choose your font, and color and type in your signature and copyright info.

Step 7. The Actions window should still be open, at the very bottom left hand corner click on the Stop button.

This will stop the recording and your new action will have been created.

Now every time you want to add your signature, all you do is open the Actions window, select your signature action you created and click on the play button at the bottom of the Actions window. It will automatically insert it for you in the position you recorded it. Reposition as required.

You may do the same with adding your borders or any other repetitive tasks you do. If wanting to record an action for adding your borders at Step 5, just replace that with what you would normally do. The way I add them is to go to Image and Canvas Size, choose the background color to black or whatever you like, and n increase the width and height to your desired size.

Hope that helps. It sure does save on time!

Enjoy!
Danka
